A Directory of Presentations: Slideshare

*Check out this slideshow video about branding yourself that was created using a new tool called: SLIDESHARE*

Slideshare is a social marketing activity that is similar to an index of videos like youtube, but instead of videos, its a directory for powerpoint presentations. This is a creative media resource for us as students and as marketers to learn to use. These (short, creative, and informative) presentations are posted onto slideshare and then are shared with social networks.
The article gives 5 great tips for using slideshare
1. Use lots of visual metaphors: No powerpoint should be text heavy, and it should keep the attention of you auidence.
2. Include a call-to-action: incorporate buttons or links for viewer to get additional information.
3. Create lead gen campaigns with LeadShare: this a a low fee program that generates leads rom within slideshare interface.
4. keep the presentations short:  the article recommends between 8-15 slides, but its a personal defination of "short". It needs to be long enough to get your point across, but short enough to make viewer wanting more.
5. Make descriptions and tags keyword rich: Make sure all of these are keyword rich (just like blog posts and videos) so they are more easily found

This is the first I have ever heard of slideshare, but it sounds like a great tool for student and professional projects. This may be a great tool that universities and companies should incorporate.

  1. This seems like a neat website. So, can anyone create a slide show about anything and share it? Also, how are they shared with social networks. I think that the use of social media is reaching beyond its original bounds. Good post.

  2. I think this is a great tool to use! All of us as college students, have had a lot of practice with powerpoint presentations. Now we can use what we know about the program to market ourselves and what we know. The tips that were given are great. They follow the rules of powerpoint presentations while encouraging the viewers to be interactive. SlideShare is also an application that can be used on LinkedIn.

  3. I have never heard of Slideshare either, but I think I could get into it. It sounds helpful to students; I only wish I had known about it sooner! Maybe it will come in handy in the future...

  4. This looks like a great new social media tool. I definitely wish this would have came around a little earlier. It would have been useful for presentations. I am sure this will catch on rather quickly and many universities and professional will start using Slideshare. Neat find!

  5. I really like the idea of this. There is a lot of information that could be transferred through this program that could be very educational to viewers. Powerpoints would be able to present useful information in ways like a teacher would.
